Energise your Cards

Make your cards your own. When you first acquire them carry them about with you, 'sleep with them by your bed' - you may even place them under your pillow - so they absorb your personal energies and become uniquely yours.

They should become special to you and it is best not to allow others to play with them or handle them without your permission. Most professional readers would not allowing anyone else to read their cards.

You may also like to purify them. This you can do by passing each card through a candle flame, quickly so as not to singe them.

If you have access to holy water, this can be sprinkled sparingly over the cards - do not allow staining or soaking of them.

You can also hold your hands over the cards and ask the Universe to give you guidance in using them wisely and with best intent.

Many scholars of Tarot would tell you that your cards should always be wrapped in a pure natural silk scarf - black is the colour usually recommended. I personally have some of my decks wrapped in silk, others is boxes, often both. I carry decks with me for which I am seeking 'cover' and if I see a silk scarf or box which I feel will suit a particular deck , I purchase it.

I would recommend that it is wise to keep cards wrapped or boxed when not in use, protecting them from damage or becoming separated.

After you have used your cards for a period of time, they seems to acquire their own spiritual energy - this is why new decks often feel cold and lifeless. Covering them and treating them with respect at all times helps to maintain their energy.

After I have finished a tarot reading and before I put my cards away, I then shuffle them for a few seconds so that they are cleared of anyone else's energy. I say a 'thank you' to my guides.

When I prepare for a new reading, I spend a few minutes connecting to my guides, then shuffle the cards for a few seconds, then hand them to the querant to shuffle.
